This past week was very busy. Nick came to visit and it was awesome! He is the most wonderful person ever. I am worried that he didn't have a very good time though. I don't really know Charleston very well yet so I don't know where to go to have fun. One of the places we went was Cypress Gardens which I thought was lovely.

Two of the people we know here are gone now. They are going to school in New York. So 2/3 of the people I know in Charleston are now gone. I will miss them both :(

Last November or December I said I wanted a pogo stick and James said no because I will hurt myself, and I know that this is true. But before one of our friends left he gave me a pogo stick!!!! It was one of the most awesome things ever and I can't wait to break my leg on it.

Eva is doing really well. She is talking a lot more now and starting to do so in front of people other than me and James.

Today we went to a live foods cafe and I had a ridiculously expensive sun burger. I didn't realize it was so much until after I had already taken it up to the counter. I really didn't know what to expect but it was amazingly good.

My Saturday

What I did on Saturday-

Got out of bed around 630 or 700
Made breakfast for Eva
I did two loads of laundry, one clothes and one diapers
I did the dishes
Cared for, picked up after, changed, and entertained Eva
Made veggie soup for lunch
Baked a loaf of bread
Soaked and cooked beans for dinner
Read a little of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance
Worked on a doll I am making for Eva
Made Paella for dinner
Picked up the house
Did a little bit of yoga and pilates

Now two years ago I don't know what I was doing but I am sure that I slept till about 1100 or 1200 and that alcohol was involved.
I don't like that I am so very domestic.

So what did you do with your Saturday? Was there alcohol involved?

Also we went to Target. And I bought a dress. Buying clothing always confuses me. I don't feel like a very small person. I feel like a medium sized person. But when I buy a dress I buy an extra small. I think that Target is full of shit and they mislabel all their clothes. And so does American Apparel and Old Navy.

In our bathroom the sink is just the basin stuck on to the wall. No pedestal or cabinet under it. I usually try and keep Eva out of there since she climbs into the sink but sometimes I forget to shut the door. I walked into the bathroom and she was hanging from the edge of the sink. I haven't forgotten to shut the door since that happened.

Eva has recently started climbing. I found her in the bathroom on top of the toilet. And from there she climbs into the sink.
Awhile ago she started to try and feed me pieces of bread and it was really cute. But now she tries to get me to eat food that she has pulled out of her mouth. So gross.

knitting

I have been knitting like crazy lately. I made a hat and scarf for Eva and a bikini top for me. Eventually I will get around to making the bottoms. But first I have to finish making a Harry Potter scarf for a friend of mine.

Eva's first birthday

I was told that I must post pictures of Eva's birthday. I would of done it earlier but the internet hasn't been working for the past few days. For her birthday I made some vegan cupcakes for her. They didn't turn out quite so well. They were okay but not great. It was very sad. But she really liked them and that is all that matters. I am a horrible cook and mess things up a lot. I blame this on my mother. Maybe I shouldn't but I do. She doesn't cook at all. So I never learned anything. When I worked at Stonybrook Mrs. Bentfield described a holiday at her in-laws as 'thanksgiving in a can' and that really sums up holidays and really every meal from my mom. I remember a few years ago my mom was finishing up her part of holiday dinner and was excitedly showing everyone that you can now buy mashed potatoes that are frozen in a plastic bag. You just buy them then pop them in the microwave and they are done. I understand taking shortcuts on some things. Maybe buying premade cookies or pie. But mashed potatoes are one of the easiest things in the world to make. I know this because I can make kick ass mashed potatoes so they must be easy to make. I don't think anyone can screw them up. I love my mother but she is crazy. And she is responsible for the fact that I feel completely lost and overwhelmed in a kitchen. I am trying to cook more on my own because I do think it is a lot healthier than premade convenience foods. But at this point it involves a lot of trial and error.
